San Francisco Knows How to Party

IMG_9472I’m back home from my Bay to Breakers weekend up in SF! This was my second year participating in this 7.1 mile race and I’m already planning my outfit for next year.  Last year they officially banned nudity for the first time in the race’s 102 year history but I think that brought out more nudists than ever.  I had a hard time finding shots to share with you that didn’t have nude runners in them!

IMG_9667

IMG_9504The hardest part of the race was the big Hayes Street hill but there were dance parties and bands along the way to help us through.

IMG_9768IMG_9783I fell in love with this city all over again.  I feel lucky to have grown up in the bay area – a free spirited place that celebrates diversity and freedom of thought and expression.  I especially loved that the onlookers dressed for the occasion to show their support:

IMG_9482IMG_9794That Mona Lisa guy was one of my favorites!

IMG_9587IMG_9586IMG_9521IMG_9996

IMG_0021In spite of all the fun, I was really happy to see the finish line and go back to my hotel and relax before hitting some of my favorite SF spots.  I had the most amazing Italian food on this visit and was able to get to my favorite Irish Coffee bar two nights in a row – I can’t wait to share more pictures tomorrow!

Lucite Heels

IMG_9377I’ve been seeing so many cute lucite heels lately! I almost ordered a white pair online from Zara and then I came across these from L.A.M.B. and fell hard for them.  They’re surprisingly comfy considering they don’t have a platform in the front to balance out the heel.  I wore these last Saturday to that fun ‘On the Go’ beauty event and felt especially stylish when I got compliments from the celebrities and beauty bloggers that were there.  Yesterday I wore them with Zara denim and a tee from Wimbo Apparel along with a Wimbo fish hook bracelet that I’ve been wearing nonstop since Sunday’s UniqueLA show.

IMG_9385IMG_9379This tee is so soft and flowy – I love the fit and the fact that this design is drawn by hand.

IMG_9357I can’t believe how fast this week has gone! I’ve been packing up and preparing for our move all week and now I’m headed up to San Francisco this weekend for the Bay to Breakers 7.1 mile run.  It’s the 102nd annual Bay to Breakers and even though I grew up in the Bay Area it’s only my second year participating.  Last year was so much fun that we decided halfway through the race that we had to do it again – so we registered for the race and booked our hotel long before we knew that we’d be moving! It’ll be nice to get out of town and get my mind off of the move for a few days.

I hope you have a fun weekend planned and that the weather is sunny and warm where you are! xoxo

Livin’ on Dreams

IMG_9412Here’s it is!!! I fell in love with this Love Nail Tree tee at the UniqueLA event this past weekend and bought it without hesitation.  I loved everything about it – the noodles, the fit and the cute way it ties in the back:

IMG_9389 I didn’t even realize until I got home that it had a beautiful story written by the creator of this shirt printed on the inside:

IMG_9451Isn’t this great? I went online to learn more about the dreamer behind this tee and found this sentence in their mission statement “It is our desire to see the stories we tell move people to action and inspire a deep change within them”.  There was something about this tee that brought me back to who I was years ago – I grew up in San Francisco, attended more concerts than I can even remember and idolized Debbie Harry.  This shirt made me think about the dreams I had back then and realize that I’m still that same girl even though so many things in my world have changed.  Discovering brands like Love Nail Tree is a big part of why I love attending these local events.  These shots my boyfriend took of me in this great tee are some of my favorites ever.

UniqueLA Spring Show

IMG_9246IMG_9305IMG_9294IMG_9244On Sunday I attended the UniqueLA Spring Show at the California Market Center! UniqueLA is the largest independent design show in the country and provided a great opportunity to meet and shop directly from 350 local, made-in-the-USA vendors.  Plus,  there were free cocktails, DIY workshops, crafts, a photo booth and a curated cafe featuring LA’s best restaurants and trucks.

IMG_9249IMG_9265IMG_9304IMG_9295I just had to buy that Ramen noodle tee! I fell for this kitty shirt but ended up leaving it behind…

IMG_9303

I tasted this Double Kick hot sauce (it’s caffeinated!!) and had to buy it.  Here I am fanning myself – it packed quite a kick!

IMG_9299One of the highlights of this show was meeting the creative minds behind Wimbo Apparel! Wimbo makes beautiful clothing and accessories with love right here in LA.

IMG_9288IMG_9276IMG_9286IMG_9284The owners of Wimbo are so incredibly sweet and talented.  I absolutely love wearing clothing and jewelry made by artists with such passion for what they are creating.  Please check out their website to see more of their fabulous designs – they have an awesome Instagram account as well.  I’m completely hooked on their fish hook bracelets and haven’t taken them off since Sunday’s show!

photo(97)I love meeting and supporting local designers and UniqueLA was a perfect place to learn more about great, young brands like Wimbo.  IMG_9318IMG_9291I’m wearing that Wildfox tee c/o Saturday’s On The Go Beauty event, thrifted black skirt and my bag is c/o Linea Pelle and my boots are by Steve Madden.

On The Go Beauty!

Kristi 5-12-13 014This weekend I attended the 5th Annual On The Go Mother’s Day Beauty event on the rooftop of The Thompson in Beverly Hills where I  enjoyed a full day of pampering thanks to Olay, Joico, Bellacures  and Ziba Beauty.  Beauty bloggers, media and celebs all brought their moms, grandmas and sisters to this fun day of beauty which also included brunch delights and cocktails by the pool.  I brought my dear friend Kelly, who has been like a sister to me ever since I first moved to LA.

Kristi 5-12-13 007Here’s Kelly getting her hair styled by Celebrity Colorist, Joico’s George Papanikolas; colorist to the Kardashians, Nicole Richie and more!

Kristi 5-12-13 054Kelly got a pretty pink mani and I got this bright purple one, thanks to Q Salon:

Kristi 5-12-13 047

Guests also got their hair braided and styled by Celebrity Stylist Mika Fowler, stylist to Olivia Munn and Annalynne McCord:

Kristi 5-12-13 037Joico also provided an Instagram photo booth while promoting their new wedding campaign “Joico Wow’s Your Vows“.  I loved the cute diamond engagement rings decorating the Joico cabana:

Kristi 5-12-13 043I was fascinated with the eyebrow threading by Glenn  in the Ziba Beauty cabana:

Kristi 5-12-13 048Did you spot The Voice’s Christina Milian in that picture? Christina is such a beautiful and sweet young mom and it was great to see her with her gorgeous daughter, Violet,  at this event getting a henna tattoo, manicure and learning more about the Olay Regenerist micro-sculpting eye cream & lash serum duo.  We got to check out the OlayWowEyes app and see our eyes light up Times Square!

Kristi 5-12-13 032Kristi 5-12-13 051Cocktails at the rooftop bar were provided by The Teaologist who treated us to a selection of tea-infused cocktails by The Owl’s Brew – a tasty tea that’s crafted for cocktails and perfect for hot summer days, with or without alcohol.  I had several glasses of the ‘Naked Arnold’ without the vodka…

Kristi 5-12-13 030

Kristi 5-12-13 028 The Thompson provided an amazing setting for this event.  It was my first time there and I’m already excited to go back – the rooftop pool is the perfect place for a relaxing LA day.

Kristi 5-12-13 019I had such a wonderful time at this event and came home with a great bag of swag:

Kristi 5-12-13 064I’m excited to try these liners and mascaras c/o Ziba Beauty! I started using the Olay eye cream & lash serum as soon as I got home Saturday night – it promises smoother lids and nourished lashes in 1 week so I’ll share my before and afters with you next week.  I can already see a difference in my lashes after just 2 applications!

In addition to all the fun I had this weekend at the On The Go Beauty event, I also visited the Unique LA Spring show at the California Market Center downtown yesterday and met with talented local designers and have lots to share with you about my visit.  In the meantime,  I’ll be spending my day packing and organizing for our move – I can’t believe it’s only a week away!!!

Clover Canyon Shopping in DTLA

IMG_9219IMG_9227(1)IMG_9218Yesterday I went to the Clover Canyon sample sale and it was a madhouse! The prices were phenomenal and I found a few dresses and tops for about a quarter of the usual retail price.  I should have been better prepared for this one and worn something close-fitting to make it easier to try the dresses on – I was in a big sweatshirt and had such a hard time changing in the crowd of shoppers and with racks of clothes everywhere.  It was all worth it for the cute things I found but next time I go to a sample sale I’ll definitely dress for it.  One of my San Francisco girlfriends always wears a leotard with a long, flowy skirt over it and flip flops to make it easier to try clothes on at these sales – you can easily pull a pair of pants or shorts up under the skirt and tops are easy to slip over the leotard.

It was fun to get a glimpse of the factory where they make their fabulous clothes.  I love supporting LA designers and manufacturers.

IMG_9222On our way back to the car we found this great pizza place:

IMG_9228The slices were fantastic! Whenever I visit downtown LA – also known as DTLA – I find these great spots that make me not miss NYC so much.

IMG_9230IMG_9229(1)My Sicilian piece was called the ‘Grandma Bess’ and it was spectacularly full of organic Roma tomatoes, basil, Parmesan and garlic galore!

IMG_9233My boyfriend’s slice had cornmeal on the crust which is my absolute favorite! His ‘Magic Chicken’ slice was a little spicy but so good.  I finished my piece and then ate the crust off of this one.

IMG_9232IMG_9231 fixedYou can’t tell from that bag of clothes on my lap how cute everything is in there but I’ll share pictures with you next week.  I’m going to a Mother’s Day beauty event on Saturday and I’m excited to wear one of my Clover Canyon finds.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and get to spend time with your loved ones!

Relax!

IMG_9214IMG_9178IMG_9207Good morning! Today I’m headed out to the Clover Canyon sample sale in downtown LA.  I was able to find these cool Clover Canyon pants on Poshmark last week and luckily they’re a perfect fit.  I’ve been finding such great things on there lately! I’ve been admiring Clover Canyon for awhile so I’m really excited to visit their sample sale which is going on today and tomorrow at 834 S. Broadway.

photo(26)I’m crazy about their colorful prints! I’m also wearing a vintage, thrifted pair of Dingo boots,  sweatshirt from Cafe Press plus that leather studded wrap bracelet from Linea Pelle. I’ll be sure to share pictures of my finds from today!!

IMG_9203IMG_9189I’m so tickled with these pants.  I also just realized that the thrift store tags are still on the bottom of my boots! Hope you’re having a wonderful week…

Al Gelato

photo(86)In addition to all of my thrift shopping and shoe hoarding and the fashion stuff that I love so much, I’m quite an eater.  I live for food – especially Italian.  This past weekend we worked so hard cleaning out our garage and preparing for the big move that we decided to take a break and treat ourselves to my absolute favorite Italian place: Al Gelato!!!

photo(91)From the outside it looks like a small dessert spot but don’t let that fool you – Al Gelato has the most amazing food ever.  I visited Italy a few years back and the food was good but nothing like this place!

photo(85)photo(90)This is the view from my favorite table:

photo(84)Can you believe the size of those cakes and pies? I always get the ‘Coffee Crunch’ gelato – it’s so good that I’m completely spoiled by it and rarely even try gelato anywhere else.

photo(87)Saturday night my boyfriend decided to take the plunge and try a slice of their apple pie.  They sell the entire pie for $100 and it weighs 30 pounds or you can get a slice for around $8.

photo(89)Our slice was warmed up, drizzled with caramel sauce and served with vanilla gelato and fresh whipped cream.

photo(88)One of the things I’m most looking forward to about the new house is being closer to ‘city life’ and places like Al Gelato.

Kissy Kissy and Elephant Bells

IMG_9011IMG_9015IMG_8996Here I am in another one of my tops from that Wildfox sample sale – this is the last of the 3 and probably my favorite.  The weather has completely changed here in LA and now we’re back to gloomy, cold mornings.  When I was little I had a pair of extreme bellbottom jeans like these ones and I called them my Elephant Bells so when I saw this pair at one of my local thrift shops for $5.99 I couldn’t pass them up! They were made by London Jeans and I’m wearing them with those Italian t-straps that I found at a San Francisco thrift shop earlier this year.

IMG_9032We spent this weekend clearing out the garage and getting ready/excited for our move! Today I’ll be working on clearing out my closet and listing more things on Poshmark. I’ve been having so much fun buying and selling on Poshmark – I’ll do a post later in the week of the things I’ve found on there!

I hope your week is off to a great start and you’re enjoying some Spring weather where you live!

Fab Fendi Friday

IMG_8943IMG_8907Happy Friday! I can’t believe how this week has flown by.  I’m fully immersed in planning our move – only 3 weeks away – and so excited about the new house.  One of the highlights of this week was receiving these fun Fendi heels that I bought from the Beckerman girls!  They had a closet sale on their website the night before I left for Coachella and I was maybe a tiny bit more excited about scoring these heels (and the fact that our feet are the same size) than about Coachella.  IMG_8962

IMG_8980Along with my amazing Beckerman Fendi’s, I’m wearing Current/Elliot jeans and my souvenir tee from Coachella.  The white poncho is from a garment district alley sale that I went to months ago.  If you’re here in LA, I highly recommend the early Saturday morning sale at 11th and San Pedro.  We got there at 6am and it was still dark out but that didn’t stop me from finding so many great deals – I got this poncho for $2.50!

IMG_8934I usually spend Saturday mornings hitting up Estate Sales in my area but this weekend I’ll be working on packing up and organizing our garage for the move.  What are your weekend plans??
